Use your phone or the touchscreen. Whichever you choose, it works the same way.

Pick a free machine
Scan the QR code on any free machine, or tap Wash or Dry on the touchscreen. Every machine shows if it’s free or how long is left.

Choose and pay
Pick your wash or drying time and see the price before you pay. Use a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Load up and relax
Load your laundry, close the door and it starts. Tap Notify me and your phone tells you when it’s done.

Fair if something goes wrong

If a machine doesn’t start after you pay, your money goes back to your card automatically.

Every wash or dry comes with a free Wi-Fi code for up to two devices while your laundry runs.

Detergent on site

Forgot the powder? Buy detergent and laundry products at the touchscreen or on your phone, then collect them from the vending machine.

Wash & Whirl is a locally owned New Zealand business led by directors Solomon Panoho and Robert Stillion, with shareholder Cashel King helping shape its future.

Our mission is to make self-service laundry cleaner, easier and more comfortable. We’re starting with one great store in Nelson.

At 17 and still at school, Cashel brings a young customer’s view as a shareholder. We’ve even built our own payment and machine system so every visit is quick, fair and simple.

Frequently asked questions

Where and when are you opening?+

Our first store is at 7 Alma St, Buxton Square, Nelson 7010. We’re planning to open early in 2027 and will confirm the date here.

Do I need to download an app?+

No. Scan the QR code on a machine and pay in your phone’s web browser, with no app or account. You can add Wash & Whirl to your home screen if you like.

How do I pay?+

On your phone with a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Or use the touchscreen in the store and tap or insert your card on the card machine. We don’t take cash.

What if the machine doesn’t start?+

The system checks every machine starts after you pay. If it doesn’t, your money goes back to your card automatically. If a machine stops part way, contact us using the store’s help page for a refund or a free wash.

How will I know when my load is done?+

After paying on your phone, tap Notify me and we’ll send a free alert when it finishes. On iPhone, add Wash & Whirl to your home screen first. You can also keep the payment page open to watch the time left.

Is there free Wi-Fi?+

Yes. Every wash or dry comes with a Wi-Fi code for up to two devices, which works until shortly after your laundry finishes.

What are the opening hours?+

We’ll confirm our opening hours before we open.
